‘Messi is on Olympus!’ – Leonardo defends PSG record

The Brazilian was exiled from his role as director in Parc des Princes, but he departs Paris French capital with fond memories

Leonardo has expressed his satisfaction with his only transfer in Lionel Messi’s history, with the Brazilian aiding in the transfer of Messi, the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021.

The possibility of a change in the team was thought of for a while but an astonishing move finally took the first place when it became clear that the legendary Argentine was leaving Barcelona as an unrestricted free agent.

As director of sports, Leonardo was able to facilitate a fellow South American joining him in the French capital city, with numerous positives to be taken in spite of Messi’s struggle to be his finest in his 11-goal debut season in the Parc des Princes.

Were PSG stunned by the news that Messi came on the market?

Leonardo said to the newspaper : “We had considered it for a while Yes. We had discussed it but Messi hadn’t thought about quitting Barcelona.

“It was the last few minutes prior to his arrival that made the difference. After that, everything is more normal. But you were Messi’s first transfer of his career!

“Chronologically There are Pele, Maradona, Messi. Messi is on Olympus. Therefore, when I review the results of my 3 years I will have the Champions League final, a semi-final as well as The 10th League title and seven national trophies. the signing of Messi.”

Leonardo added one some of his most fond memories from PSG: “There are two important moments in my life that are very memorable for me, even though I’m not one to pick the best.

“The one is that of the signing on the same day of [Marco”Marco” Verratti and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (in 2012.). It’s not a coincidence that a player in the Italian second division and a world soccer superstar arrived at the same at the same time. The other one is Messi. There are two major dates.”

Was Leonardo removed from PSG?

Although he enjoyed a lot of highs while in PSG, Leonardo now finds himself without work.

There has been speculation that he was evicted due to Kylian Mbappe signing his new contract for his club, the Ligue 1 title holders as well as a World Cup-winning France international being reported to be calling for changes in the off and on the field.

Leonardo insists that this was not the case, and says: “It was the end of the season, and perhaps it was time to make a decision about the future.

I wasn’t told that, but I do not want to be involved in this kind of stuff. It’s important to note that PSG has been able to keep hold of the player, who is one who is a Frenchman and a Parisian crucial for PSG and also for Ligue 1.

“Certain things that are said internally must remain that way. This is what I’ve seen at the club. When a club wants to rid you of your membership there’s no easy way to announce that it’s done.”
